UPE Members' Tech Talk Program

UPE members are some of the brightest CS students at USC, so we'd expect you have a lot to say. We can help with that!

If you have an interesting computing-related topic you'd like to give a University-wide (or just UPE-wide, your choice) talk on, we can be your platform. You provide the content, we'll provide the facilities, webcasting, advertising, and food.

Guidelines

The following guidelines apply to this program. These rules are flexible, but we ask that if you plan to deviate from them you get approval in advance. Conversely, these guidelines are not guaranteed to be inclusive. Members should exercise judgement befitting a UPE member and act in accordance with the ACM Code of Ethics.

  • All UPE members are welcome to propose a talk, including students and alumnni.
  • There is no guarantee that a proposal will be accepted. Rest assured, if there's a problem we'll let you know and guide you through what steps you need to take to correct it.
  • Talks should be limited to 90 minutes.
  • Talks should be of a nature appropriate for an academic environment. Attempts to advertise commercial services will not be tolerated.
  • Your topic should be somehow related to computing. After all, this is a CS honor society.
  • Scheduling and funding a talk takes lots of work, especially since we need to coordinate with the university. Please allow at least one month for us to get everything prepared.
  • We will provide a classroom and projector for the talk. If you need anything else, including access to a university workstation for driving the projector, you need to let us know.
  • Unless you specify otherwise, your presentation will be webcast. This includes posting copies of your slides, an audio recording of your talk, and/or a video recording of your talk.
  • The content of the talk should be released under a copyleft license. We strongly recommend a Creative Commons Attribution license, though this isn't strictly required.
